Did you know that a person can lose up to 64 ounces of fluids a day from sweating? Most people may not even realize the loss, but the human body is constantly managing its core body temperature through the expulsion of sweat. It is important for a person to replace these lost fluids every day. Water is necessary for the body to run properly. Here are 10 ways in which water benefits the body that most people may not know.

  1. Improved Brain Function and Energy - The human brain is composed on about 73% water. Making sure that there is ample fluid to hydrate the brain will improve thought processes, focus, concentration, and alertness. This will then result in increased energy levels as well.

  2. Helps with Weight Loss and Management - Water helps to remove the fat by-products that are produced. Also, a couple of glasses of water prior to a meal can work as an appetite suppressant in order to reduce the number of calories that a person is consuming.

  3. Hangovers - Alcohol is a substance that can dehydrate the body, including the brain. Hangovers can be reduced or eliminated if a person drinks a glass of water with every alcoholic beverage that they drink. This will help to counteract the dehydrating property of alcohol.

  4. Headaches - (related to #3) Dehydration is a common cause for the headaches that are experienced by people on a daily basis, like the ones that come with a hangover. Drinking enough water in a day can help to prevent or even treat a headache.

  5. Digestion - Water aids the body in digestion. This allows a person to fully digest their food and obtain the optimal amount of nutrients from their food. It also allows their digestive system to remain regular and healthy.

  6. Immune System Boost - Water boosts the immune system by delivering much-needed oxygen to the cells throughout the body. This oxygen allows the body to be healthy on a cellular level.

  7. Toxins - Water is necessary to help the body flush toxins. The body expels these toxins through sweat and urine and water is necessary in order for the body to produce urine and sweat.

  10. Back Pain - The vertebrae of the spine are separated by discs that are mostly comprised of water. When the body is dehydrated, the discs become compromised, and thus pain is experienced. Proper hydration will help to maintain the fluid levels within these discs.
